RSPH Make Every Contact Count for Mental Health

For all Pharmacy colleagues working in the North Yorkshire or Humber LPC’s. Lydia Clarke your Wellbeing Coach will be providing an accredited qualification later this year on a one of a kind qualification. This course will include CPD hours, certificate as evidence and will be offered to you free of charge, please note only 12 places will be available and will book up quickly.

Brief Interventions Webinar: ‘How to support people to stop smoking’

For all Pharmacy colleagues working in the North Yorkshire or Humber LPC’s. Lydia Clarke your Wellbeing Coach will be providing a free 60 minute interactive webinar to discuss support on hand for those working in pharmacies from a quick question to more in depth support!

Learn how by using simple motivational interviewing techniques can enable you to support and guide a smoker to stub out the habit for good!

The course will give you the skills and confidence in understanding more about smoking and the use of tobacco, an introduction to motivational interviewing techniques, and advice on effectively engaging with your clients whilst also including:

  1. Smoking related issues, prevalence, changes to the law, health risks of smoking & benefits to quitting
  2. The pharmacological approach to smoking cessation and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
  3. Developing practical skills to positively encourage brief intervention discussions within your role and service
  4. Recognising when a person may be ready to quit
  5. Smoking in pregnancy and smokefree homes
  6. Understanding why people smoke and the difficulties they might have quitting
  7. Current prevalence in your local area

We provide FREE training to all of those working with patients, carers, professionals, workforces who might smoke or linked to a smoker in the east Riding the opportunity to partake in Brief Intervention Training. The course will give you the skills and confidence in understanding more about smoking and the use of tobacco, an introduction to motivational interviewing techniques, and advice on effectively engaging with your clients.

The session is interactive giving you the opportunity to ask questions, address your anxieties on talking about smoking cessation and you will leave with an in depth understanding of the following:

RSPH Level 2 in Supporting Behaviour Change

The NHS YOURhealth Service are an accredited service for providing a 2 day training course on supporting Behaviour Change.

The objective of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge, confidence and skills to support individuals who are thinking of making a health behaviour change.

It will enable learners to understand the importance of effective communication in building rapport with individuals. It will also help learners to understand how to work with individuals to increase their motivation to make a behaviour change and explore the factors that hinder and facilitate that change.

Assessment is through a multiple choice examination which now consists of 35 questions. Exemplar lesson plans and teaching slides will be available from the online shop from mid-May.

Making Every Contact Count is an approach to behaviour change that utilises the millions of day to day interactions that organisations and people have with other people to support them in making positive changes to their physical and mental health and wellbeing. We run 3 hour training sessions periodically throughout the year across the East Riding.
