We offer a variety of services that might be useful to yourself or your patients or services users.

If you would like to refer anyone in to the service please email HNF-TR.healthtrainers@nhs.net providing us with a brief overview of the reason for the referral, their full name, date of birth and a contact number and we will contact them within 48 working hours to discuss their referral. Alternatively you can request an E-Referral form  by completing the contact us tab at the bottom of the page.

You might also require a top up of resources. We currently have a large selection of leaflets, business cards and posters on all of our services which you can request be sent to your workplace for displays and for you to issue to your patients.

For Professionals

Brief Intervention Training

We provide FREE training to all of those working with patients, carers, professionals, workforces who might smoke or linked to a smoker in the east Riding the opportunity to partake in Brief Intervention Training. The course will give you the skills and confidence in understanding more about smoking and the use of tobacco, an introduction to motivational interviewing techniques, and advice on effectively engaging with your clients whilst also including:

  • Smoking related issues, prevalence, changes to the law, health risks of smoking & benefits to quitting
  • The pharmacological approach to smoking cessation and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
  • Developing practical skills to positively encourage brief intervention discussions within your role and service
  • Recognising when a person may be ready to quit
  • Smoking in pregnancy and smokefree homes
  • Understanding why people smoke and the difficulties they might have quitting
  • Prevalence in the East Riding

RSPH Level 2 in Supporting Behaviour Change

The NHS Healthtrainer Service are an accredited service for providing a 2 day training course on supporting Behaviour Change.

The objective of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge, confidence and skills to support individuals who are thinking of making a health behaviour change.

It will enable learners to understand the importance of effective communication in building rapport with individuals. It will also help learners to understand how to work with individuals to increase their motivation to make a behaviour change and explore the factors that hinder and facilitate that change.

Assessment is through a multiple choice examination which now consists of 35 questions. Exemplar lesson plans and teaching slides will be available from the online shop from mid-May.

Make Every Contact Count (MECC) Training

Are you interested in training that ensures you have the skills, knowledge and confidence to Make Every Contact Count?

Making Every Contact Count is an approach to behaviour change that utilises the millions of day to day interactions that organisations and people have with other people to support them in making positive changes to their physical and mental health and wellbeing.
