As part of our 1-1 service we offer every client the chance to have a health check. This includes a blood pressure check, height and weight measurement plus a waist measurement. This service is optional and you may only want some of it doing depending on why you accessed the service in the first place but we think it’s a great addition to the service and can sometimes highlight something which may require further investigation.

Alongside our own health checks we also provide the Free NHS Health Checks. With the NHS Health Check we provide a cholesterol and blood pressure check, height, weight and waist measurement and spend some time going through your lifestyle. This is a slightly different service as it is a national initiative and there is some criteria that goes with it but if you would like more information please click here to find out.
The healthtrainers service has been commissioned by Public Health (East Riding of Yorkshire Council) to roll out the NHS Healthcheck across the East Riding of Yorkshire alongside a number of other local providers.

Why Should you have an NHS Healthcheck?

As we get older there is more chance that we will have problems with our health. Some of the most common problems are:

In the brain a blood vessel can get blocked or bleed. This could cause a stroke. A blood vessel is a tube that carries blood around your body.

In the heart a blood vessel can get blocked. This could cause a heart attack or angina. Angina is a pain in your chest if your heart is not getting enough oxygen.

The kidneys can be damaged by high blood pressure or diabetes. This could cause kidney problems and give you more chance of having a heart attack.

Being overweight or not getting enough exercise can lead to type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common sort of diabetes.

Diabetes is when you have too much sugar in your blood. Diabetes can make you feel tired and thirsty and can cause other health problems in the future.

Some things that put you at even more risk of having health problems:

Being Overweight, not getting enough exercise, smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol.

A free NHS Healthcheck will tell you how to give yourself the best chance of avoiding these problems.
